Get Every Tooth Ready

Orthodontic treatments are most effective when all of a patient’s adult teeth are fully erupted. Sometimes, a tooth may not fully emerge and remain partially covered by gum tissue, requiring an expose and bond procedure to gently guide the tooth to the dental arch.

As a specialized practice, Wise Decision is well-versed in expose and bond procedures. Leveraging 34 years of experience as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Johnson brings a better and stronger smile to every patient he sees. If you need orthodontic treatment, but find that partially exposed teeth are standing in your way, let us take you one step closer to your best smile. Ready to schedule your consultation? Benefits of Expose & Bond

An expose and bond procedure is designed to expose a tooth that has not fully erupted or is partially covered by gum tissue, allowing the tooth to shift into its proper position.

Using orthodontic brackets allow orthodontists to have a stable anchor point for braces or other appliances, starting the process of guiding teeth into correct alignment with surrounding teeth, improving alignment and bite functionality.

Expose and bond procedures guide impacted teeth below the gum line, to the dental arch, facilitating proper alignment and eliminating potential complications associated with impacted teeth.

If space in the dental arch is limited, an expose and bone procedure can help correct overcrowding. Guiding impacted or partially erupted teeth into their correct positions contribute to a harmonious arrangement of teeth.

Expose & Bond Procedure

An expose and bond procedure exposes the impacted or partially erupted tooth. Typically, this process is done by removing the overlying gum tissues and is performed using local anesthesia.

After a tooth is exposed, your surgeon will affix an orthodontic bracket to the tooth’s surface to serve as an attachment point for an orthodontic appliance, such as braces. This device will guide the tooth to its correct position in the dental arch.

Following the procedure, a patient can continue with orthodontic treatment as planned, and the exposed tooth is gradually shifted into proper alignment with surrounding teeth.

Types of Anesthesia

Depending on your procedure, you will receive one of the following forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
